Interview with Eryn Johnson, The Healer behind the upcoming Queen of Wands Tarot Yoga Workshop!
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
My name is Eryn Johnson and I’m a tarot reader, reiki practitioner, and trauma conscious yoga teacher in Philly. I’m also the host of the Living Open podcast for mystics and seekers. Mostly, I’m a creative and a healer. A witch dedicated to coming home to myself and to helping others do the same.
This is my website if you are curious to learn more about my work https://www.living-open.com/
What inspired you to combine the magic of tarot with yoga?
I was a yoga teacher before I ever learned about tarot. When I started diving deeper into tarot, it was a really natural evolution for me to want to bring these sort of esoteric, magical archetypes into the body and breath.
Like okay, what does it really FEEL like to be in the manifesting energy of the magician? What does it really FEEL like to be in the wildness of the moon or the watery depths of the Queen of Cups?
I feel like we develop such a deeper understanding of these powerful archetypes when we pull them out of the ether and ground them down with something that makes sense on a very physical level.
What is the significance of the Queen of Wands?
The Queen of Wands is the witch of the tarot. She is fire and water, forest fires and candle flames and tsunamis and gentle summer rain. She is the essence of ownership of your power, of complete alignment with who you really are, of deep integration of your magic and intuition.
She’s a powerful archetype that helps us come home to ourselves. To our magic, to our power— which never leaves us. It’s just that sometimes we forget it’s there.
What is your favorite Tarot card?
I don’t really have an all-time favorite tarot card, although I love all the queens, but I’ll say that my constant teacher is definitely Death.
I have a lot of Scorpio energy in my chart (including my north node), the sign associated with the Death card, and to me that card is really about transformation. It’s about a shedding of a skin, a stepping into a cocoon when you’re not sure how you’re going to emerge on the other side or what it will look like when you do.
That’s always been hard for me, but working with the Death card as my teacher is a reminder that without fail temperance ALWAYS follows death. The magic of temperance, the flow, the alchemy, the transformation, cannot happen without the shedding, the cracking open that happens in Death.
What is your Ritual that you include in your daily practice?
I love working with candle magic, so every day I light the 2 big candles on my altar— one for manifesting and one for healing my inner child— while I give myself reiki, draw a tarot card for the day or do a spread, and meditate on whatever feels really present for me.
What can folks look forward to in this workshop?
We start with a brief intro to the Queen of Wands. Then we’ll do a chanting meditation to Kali, the goddess who helps us clear away anything that’s blocking us from fully stepping into our Queen of Wands power.
We’ll journal and do tarot pulls, and then there will be time to share anything that’s come up for you. This is my favorite part— hearing what’s come up for everyone, the new layers that have been cracked open, the light that has been poured into old wounds.
Then we’ll do a meditation to open your sacral and solar plexus chakras, and move through a trauma conscious hatha yoga flow focused on opening up both of those centers— your center of water and your center of fire.
We’ll end with a long savasana where you’ll receive reiki healing to help you release any blockages still remaining.
After one of my classes, someone turned told me they turned to their friend and said, “Whoa, what just happened?!” Because they felt such a shift. This workshop is really fun, but it’s also really powerful.
What can this workshop help with (confusion. anxiety, cross roads in life)?
This workshop will help you tap into your power, your intuition, your magic. It’s a potent reminder for your mind, body, and soul that you ARE the queen of wands and that her energy is available to you whenever you need it.
When you’re in a space of doubting yourself, if you’re feeling imposter syndrome, if you feel out of touch with your intuition or ashamed of your magic, if you’ve forgotten how powerful you are, come to this class. It’s going to be medicine for you.
