2022 Eclipse Season Guide
We know it's still 2021...but December always gets us focused on the year ahead! We're busy working on a HUGE "Astrological Guide to 2022" that'll land here on the blog in just a couple weeks, but for now, let's focus on next year's eclipses!
The North and South Nodes of the Moon are where eclipses occur every six months, and the Nodes are changing signs next month.
The North and South Nodes of the Moon shift signs about every 18 months. For almost the entirety of the pandemic (since May 2020) the nodes have highlighted the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. This is significant, especially for those of us living in the United States, because many astrologers believe the U.S. birth chart features a Sagittarius Rising...more on that in a bit!
First of all, what’s the significance of the North and South Node?
On January 18, 2022, the North Node will depart Gemini and enter Taurus, and the South Node will depart Sagittarius and enter Scorpio.
- North Node = Rahu, head of the snake, manifestation
- South Node = Ketu, tail of the snake, release
Eclipses always occur on the Nodes of the Moon, and in 2022, they will all fall within the Scorpio/Taurus axis. When eclipses align with the North Node, we welcome fresh starts attributed to any number of people, places, and things entering our life. South Node eclipses, on the other hand, offer opportunities for release, often happening suddenly during this time and feeling like a matter of fate.
Let’s circle back to the U.S. birth chart for a helpful example.
There’s some debate as to the exact time that America was “born” but if we use the popular “Sibly Chart” as a guide, we see America has Sagittarius Rising. So we would’ve been collectively experiencing the South Node transiting the FIRST HOUSE of our country since May 2020. Doesn’t that seem accurate? We’ve had to release all sorts of themes related to our IDENTITY (the astrological first house) as a nation, in order to pursue, and perhaps rectify relationships with others.
With the Scorpio/Taurus axis activated in 2022, the U.S. will need to work on releasing lots of repressed and hidden parts of its psyche, as the South Node will be transiting the country’s twelfth house. This might look like specific reforms to our prison system, mental health needing to be prioritized in the workplace, or more broadly, ugly truths that have been hidden from view finally coming to light.
With this shift, we’re all being invited to release outdated attachments related to the house Scorpio rules in our birth chart. By learning to release, we’re reborn with more room to chase the foundations that the Taurus house of our chart desires to build.
Scorpio release is often intangible, though it’s inherently connected with 3D reality.
In 2022, the more you’re able to transmute the pain that has been stored in your emotional body, the more you will manifest changes in the physical world.

Eclipse Season Rituals
Release through yoga, acupuncture, and other spiritually aligned practices will serve all signs in 2022. As will connecting with the emotional body in whatever way serves you best.
For the Scorpio eclipses specifically, it's nice to focus on its planetary rulers. Scorpio is traditionally ruled by Mars, and in modern astrology, ruled by Pluto. Both of these planets are about POWER and tied to sexuality. Release through sex, solo or with partner(s) is a powerful ritual, specifically during the May and October eclipses. How can you make sex more special? More SAFE? More emotionally vulnerable? Don't be afraid to go there.
Mars and Pluto activate the Sacral Chakra, which is said to be blocked by fear. Scorpio is known for being fearsome...but that same energy can turn negative when it isn't channeled. These eclipses will highlight power imbalances, and ask you to release any ways in which you've let unhealthy fear hold you back.
Finally, if you have an altar space (or would like to create one in 2022), dedicating some objects to Mars and Pluto are a great way to ritualize your release. The color RED is especially powerful, as are any objects that empower you personally, or that used to empower you, but you're ready to shed for a new version.
The release that happens around the Scorpio eclipses in 2022 will be about facing down your fears, once and for all, so that we can collectively move forward.
